The Swajan Foundation is a tax-exempt private operating foundation approved by the IRS in the United States under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Swajan Foundation is focused on alleviating poverty primarily through education. The foundation provides financial assistance to the students with financial need who show promise to work hard and stay focused to reach their full potential through education.

Our scholarships provide financial assistance and academic support to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in West Bengal, India.


So far, Swajan has provided support to many high-achieving students who have come from low-income families. Please check our former and current scholars pages to see more detail about their profile and background.

The primary mission of Swajan Foundation is to alleviate poverty through education. The foundation helps underprivileged students get education which will ultimately empower them to win the battle against poverty.


The activities we engage in include but are not limited to:

  • help underprivileged students at all levels (middle schools, high schools, college & universities) by meeting their basic needs of school supplies, books, education tools, Internet connection etc
  • provide financial-aid directly to the students or the schools they go to towards tuition costs, school fees etc
  • provide coaching in order to help the students achieve their goals, realize their full potential, search jobs and get job placement
