Swajan Foundation

Swajan Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization and its primary mission is to alleviate poverty through education. Swajan operates in USA as well as in India.

Our Programs

In India, the foundation provides financial assistance to disadvantaged students who show promise to work hard and stay focused to reach their full potential through education. Our scholarships provide financial assistance and academic support to middle school, high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Besides the scholarship the Foundation provides in person coaching to the students. Over the years Swajan has provided support to many high-achieving students, who have come from low-income families and are currently employed in various organization in the public or private sectors, or pursuing higher education in India and abroad.
Swajan also provides support for childcare services for the families in need in Bay Area, California.

India Complex (community center)

The facility has modern amenities such as high speed Internet, projector, computer, sound system and a small library.

Swajan's monthly students meetings, quarterly guardian meetings and annual get together are held here.

We also have programs for the India's Independence day (August 15th), Basanta Utsav (festival of Holi), Baishe Srabon (celebration of Tagore's life) etc. held at the facility and people from local community participate in those events as well.

The students who are enrolled into our scholarships program use the facility for group studies, use the internet for course work, online studies, job searching etc.

The students who are not enrolled also join us to learn together and use the facility.

Recent or upcoming Events

December 15, 2024: Swajan's 𝘼𝙣𝙣𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙥 was on 1𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 this year at the Jangalpara BCKM High School, Jangalpara, Hooghly, W.B. On that day we had various games, cultural programs, prize distribution and meet and greet to get to know each other and form a beautiful bond among the current students, former students, volunteers and special guests. Light breakfast, tea and home cooked meals were provided. We all had a wonderful time and made a lot of memories to cherish.

November 10, 2024: All students meetup -- we generally have our monthly all students meetup on the 1st Sunday of the month at the Swajan Foundation’s India complex. Since this year the Durga Puja festival is also around that time, we are going to have the meeting on Saturday (1st October) instead of Sunday at 9:30am IST. 1st October is also Maha Sasthi, so we will be having some special programs too on that day. We are cordially inviting all of our current and former students. Let's meet on this special day and celebrate together.

August 15, 2024: Swajan Foundation is celebrating India's Independence Day.

August 7, 1941, Calcutta. On this day, a period of prolonged, agonizing illness ended with the death of Rabindranath Tagore at his Jorasanko home. The Bengali calendar read: 22 Shrabon, 1349. Every year, the 22nd day of Shrabon, irrespective of the Gregorian or ‘English’ calendar, has therefore been a day of mourning in Bengal.

We are celebrating Tagore’s life and legacy at Swajan Foundation’s India complex.
